Challenge. The corporate sponsorship chair of the local chapter of a national professional association wasn’t happy with the current document her team used in their sponsorship procurement activities and sought a new document that better represented the organization and communicated the benefits and value of partnership to prospective sponsors.
Approach. Working collaboratively with the sponsorship chair, I led her through a process of framing the document layout and identifying the key content to include in the document, which included information on the benefits of partnership, an overview of the program, available partnership opportunities, event details, and membership and event attendee data. I then sourced, analyzed, and prepared the key membership and event attendee data; synthesized and formatted all content; and developed a draft document for the sponsorship chair’s review and approval. We presented the draft document to the organization’s board of directors, by whom it was well-received and fully supported.
Results. The Professional Association’s 2012-13 Partnership Program document received accolades from both the board and the corporate sponsorship team members and is currently being used by the team. The sponsorship chair also intends to update the organization’s online assets with content from this document.
Feedback. “I worked with Steve to produce a Sponsorship Document for [Professional Association]. Starting with a basic document he led the process to develop a revised communication that conveyed a lot of information in an easy to access manner. Steve looked at individual content critically while keeping in mind the overall purpose of the document. During conversations he never lost sight of the ‘why it matters’ question. He is skilled in collaboration and communication and his questions and suggestions added value. With his excellent follow up and follow through we met our deadline now have a working document that not only will help us increase and build partnerships but it will help us define our association. I enjoyed working with Steve and would do so again.” Top qualities: Personable, On Time, High Integrity – J. Ganje, VP Corporate Sponsorship
